Do I need a computer to have a web site?
No. Your web site will be "hosted" by a hosting company that specializes in this service. They maintain a bank of computers that run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When your web site is ready, your web site designers will transfer your site to the hosting computer. From there, visitors have access to your site around the clock.

My competitors have a web site. Do I need one too?
Probably. Imagine two telephone book ads, side by side. One provides a web site with sales information, the other does not. A percentage of these customers are going to make an investment in the vendor with the web site. This is especially true if your business has closed for the day.

How will a web site help my sales?
Savvy small businesses are creating new ways to enhance their business via the Internet. For example, a wine store could allows its patrons to place orders for pick up after work. This means that customers pick up their orders more quickly, a big selling feature for busy folks.

If your business sells a product that would be of interest at a regional or national level as well, consider offering it for sale via your web site. For example, a used book store might offer books for sale via its local retail store and to clients across the country.

How much will the design cost?

Can I do the web site maintenance myself?

Yes you can, and we hope you will take an active role in the maintenance of your web site.

How long does it take?
That depends largely on the size and complexity of your site. The most common site for small businesses is ten pages, and takes three to four days to complete.

How much disk space will my site need on the host computer?
A typical ten page site with one graphic per page will require less than 5MB.

How do I register my URL?
Your URL or Internet address must be registered to reserve it for you. Currently registration fees are Can$20 per year.  With the first year payable in advance. We will be pleased to register your URL on your behalf. There is only a Can$10 fee [plus registration costs] for this service.

How do I host my web site?
You may host your site under your own domain [www.yourcompany.com]. We can help you to select a hosting company suitable to the needs of your site. We are also able to work with a variety of hosting companies, if you have a company you would prefer to use. Hosting services run around Can$20 to $30 per month depending on site size and content. Which is best, hosting on your domain or my own domain?
This is a hard question. Having your own .com domain name is still considered to be the best. However, domain names of the form www.YourCompany.com are going fast, so you should register your domain name as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.  It's becoming very difficult to get a domain that exactly matches the name of your company.  We can assist you in searching for a suitable domain name.

How do I register my site with the search engines?
We will submit your site URL to the top forty search engines including: 

Will there be a charge for the search engines?
None of the search engines we use charge for their services. We do not charge for submitting your URL to the search engines.

Please remember, it can take up to six months to have your site listed on some of the busier search engines.

How will people find my site?
For now, most of your visitors will find you through your own advertising and self promotion. We suggest that you incorporate your new URL into all your ads and promotional material. Be sure to include your URL on all your business cards and stationery as well.

There probably are local business indexes in your area. Make sure you are properly indexed in them.  As mentioned above, we will also submit your site to the top forty search engines on the Internet. 

Should I include my URL in my telephone book advertising?
Absolutely! This is by far the best way to get perspective customers to view your site. Some telephone companies already list URLs in their online directories providing single click access to your site.

How do I display my URL in print?
URLs are most often presented without the "http://" or other prefixes such as "Internet:" or "web:" although if space permits this is not a problem.  Some people feel that a mixed case listing is more readable, especially for long URLs. For example, our URL in mixed case would be www.WayneFritz.com  If you are hosting on our domain, the correct usage would be www.OurDomain.com/YourCompanyName

Should you wish to use the mixed case style, remember that some of your site visitors will feel compelled to enter it in mixed case, even though this is not required by the Internet. You will have to decide for your own URL which style looks the best and will least inconvenience your visitors.

How often can I make changes to my web site?
You can make changes to your site as often as you like.  We charge a fifteen minute minimum for all changes. You can also learn to use FrontPage, and do the changes yourself for free 24 hours a day. Can I update my web site myself?
Of course. We will be pleased to provide the training you will need to do this.

However, you will need to be comfortable with working with computers, word processors, servers and some Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML). Some of our pages also use a programming language called JavaScript. What if you move or go out of business?
We have lived in the Vancouver area for over 30 years. We like it here and plan to stay!

For your protection, we make your hosting and URL arrangements in your name. This means that you own every aspect of your web site directly, and are free to transfer it to another hosting service at any time, should you feel the need to do so. [Not available for web sites hosted on our domain]
